Economic Condition of East Pakistan before separation wee worse. East Bengal or East Pakistan was also part of Pakistan in 1947. Jute and tea were the major productions of East Pakistan, but they had fewer natural sources. It faced many geographical problems; natural disaster was one of those. It suffered a lot due to rains, floods, and storms from the Bay of Bengal, which affected its agricultural setup. It was a poor area at the time of independence of Pakistan and the bulk of the population migrated towards East Bengal from West Bengal and Bihar (which was geographically linked) with East Pakistan.
As the majority of the refugees belonged to the poor class, which also weakened the economy of that region. With the passage of time, worse conditions were created in East Pakistan
